Shri Basaveshwar Veerashaiva Vidyavardhaka Sangha - A Citadel of Education
Shri Basaveshwar Veerashaiva Vidya Vardhak Sangha came into existence on Karthika Shuddha Pratipada 1828 Shaka (18.10.1906) with the sole objectives to spread education among the rural masses. The light that was lit on that auspicious day of Deepavali has become a beacon glowing with radiance and brilliance. The Sangha is named after Shri Basaveshwar, a visionary, a mystic, a religious leader, a social reformer and a leader of literary revolution par excellence of 12 th century. As its appellation suggests the Sangha has been dedicating itself to the noble cause of dissemination of knowledge ever since its inception.
His Holiness Shri Gurubasava Swamiji of Belur graced the Sangha as its first president. He was a legendary ascetic and a mystic. His omniscience tended and nurtured the Sangha through its infancy and shaped its destiny. The Sangha which started its educational venture with a Sanskrit pathashala in 1907 has grown over the years into a citadel of education with a network of more than 100 institutions at Bagalkot, Kudala Sangam, Mudhol and Ramadurga. Its spectacular buildings and sprawling campuses present an impressive glimpse of a veritable university. With its primary, secondary and higher educational institutions the Sangha has become a virtual boon and blessing for the rural students of this region.
